Welcome back to the final installment of Better Business Bureau from a young consumers perspective! This is the final week, and I’m so glad you guys have been following along to see all that BBB can do for you and the heart behind their mission.
To finish this series, I am going to be summing up what I talked about each week, telling you more about the heart of the BBB which backs each of these services, and some specific ways BBB is aiming to help young consumers in particular.
Business Accreditation and Complaint Handling
Week one we started with business accreditation and complaint handling. These are two great services that show how much BBB cares about its businesses and customers. BBB wants the interactions between these two parties to be as smooth as possible and genuinely works to make that happen.
BBB will make sure complaints are heard and addressed, and also has their business accreditations service so consumers can know they are verified to be ethical and desiring to help their customers.
These are great services that show the heart behind BBB and their services.
The next week we talked about some real-life stories that prove BBB is what it says and is actually making a difference in the lives of individuals and businesses. These were some of the most powerful for me as it allowed me to see that people genuinely use and like BBB.
While I talked about some of these stories in previous blogs, I would encourage you to take a look at that blog/vlog here. As well as take a look at BBB social media to see more stories!
These testimonials and real stories of BBB benefits show that, especially as young consumers, the value of BBB services is not to be overlooked.
BBB App and Online Reviews
The BBB app and verified online reviews may be the most beneficial thing for young consumers. I would encourage you to take a look at my more in-depth talk about them in previous weeks here.
The app helps to find businesses accredited and verified to be ethical and there to help their customers. The online reviews also help combat the world of fake online reviews by having hand verified reviews by BBB staff.
These services help make sure you are getting the full picture of a business and allows a quicker and easier discovery of the companies you want to work with.

Identity Theft and Scam Tracker
We followed this week with a discussion on BBB’s tips for identity theft prevention and their continuing posts and newsletters which have tips to help you stay safe and prevent your identity from being stolen and used for illegal purposes.
The scam tracker is another excellent service from BBB which allows you to search by area any scams going on, the amount it has cost victims already, and what it is. By staying up to date on local scams, you can prevent a lot of problems that could have arisen from using a service which is in reality just a scam.
These are again just two more ways BBB aims to help consumers and especially ways young consumers can stay safe in the world of increasingly online marketplaces. They also show the desire BBB has to keep people safe.
The BBB 10k scholarship is one of the best ways to learn more about BBB and an awesome opportunity they provide to partner with Juniors and Seniors in high school to help one winner with college costs while educating the communities about BBB and their desire to help consumers and businesses stay safe and maintain ethical standards.
This scholarship is by far the coolest way for young consumers to get involved with BBB and I’d highly encourage you to check it out and apply! It really isn’t that much work, could potentially have an awesome payoff, and is a cool way to learn more!
To sum up, Better Business Bureau is here to help consumers. The common thread throughout all of these blogs is that each week I’ve learned a little more about both the continuing relevancy of BBB in today’s digital consumer age and the genuine heart behind the services.
Behind the scenes, every person I’ve ever met that works for BBB have been some of the nicest people to work with. They genuinely want people to stay safe, smart, and maintain a good marketplace environment.
If you haven’t already, take a look at my previous week’s blogs and vlogs to learn more about BBB! I learned so much this summer throughout all the weeks of diving in, and I really hope you do too.
The most important takeaway I have got from this summer working for and researching about Better Business Bureau is that the marketplace can be a dangerous place and hard to navigate at times. BBB is here to help consumers avoid danger and frustration and has many services in place to do so.
These services are backed by some of the nicest and most genuine people which, in my opinion, is the basis of a good business. This is why BBB has been so successful in fostering that safe marketplace they desire and will continue adapting to the times and still make the marketplace interactions safe and ethical.
It’s been a great summer, and I hope you learned as much as I did about BBB itself, the services they offer, and the people and heart behind them.
Thanks for reading and watching with me through these few weeks this summer and keep striving to be a smart consumer.
Thanks for a great summer!
