Around the world, people understand this: Aloha means Hawaii. That word inspired BBB Hawaii scholarship recipient Stefani Sakamoto in producing her Girl Scout Gold Award project: A Life Of Healthy Actions (A.L.O.H.A). Stefani has a passion for healthy nutrition. When she learned obesity rates among Hawaii’s children are high, she jumped in to help and educate more than 200 children and their families through games and handouts on nutrition. She created a website that included included recipes and healthy eating tips. Stefani’s project and passion took her to the White House to meet Michelle Obama, as Hawaii’s representative for Healthy Lunchtime Challenge.
Stefani’s accomplishments are many and varied. They include Junior ROTC, 4-H, Marching Band, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), yearbook and dance. Stefani doesn’t just participate in these activities, she excels. As the Army JROTC Battalion Commander for Punahou, she has garnered leadership skills and learned how to motivate people.
Stefani Sakamoto is a student at Punahou School in Honolulu, HI, and will receive a $1,000 scholarship toward her college education.
